Ike Dollar Struck on a 3.7g Clad Planchet

This unique Ike Dollar off-metal was just discovered. There is mystique and excitement surrounding this recently discovered Ike Dollar struck on clad planchet that weighs 3.7 grams. It is the exact size of a U.S. Quarter blank but it is the thickness of a U.S. Dime blank. This weight and diameter does not match any foreign coins struck at any of the U.S. Mints during the time frame when Ike Dollars were minted.

It could be struck on any of the following:

  • An improperly manufactured U.S. Quarter blank
  • A Quarter blank punched to Dime thickness
  • A blank planchet intended for a metal or token
  • An unidentifiable blank planchet intended for a foreign coin which was never struck at a U.S. Mint.
